National Aquarium DC

Formerly located in the Department of Commerce building in DC, the National Aquarium was the nation’s first free public aquarium, but it was a tired, a burnt-out basement attraction nearly invisible in the competitive Washington museum scene. A re-vitalized vision and purpose were needed to create a high-profile attraction that filled a void in the DC marketplace. Live animal display, and a strong focus on marine conservation and the perils of climate change would put a revamped institution on the crowded map of local tourist attractions. Working closely with the Baltimore Aquarium leadership and staff, Chora articulated a transformative vision for this landmark institution.
